What is ACP?
Congress created the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a long-term, $14 billion program, to replace the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program. This investment in broadband affordability helped ensure affordable connections for work, school, health care and more. ACP collaborates with wireless carriers, like Gen Mobile, to offer payment assistance to eligible households, based on income or other factors, as well as a one-time device subsidy on an eligible device per qualified household. The service offering could be switched at any time and ACP discount applied once each calendar month. The ACP is currently out of funding and is not accepting new applicants at this time.
Unless the U.S. Congress provides additional funding, the last month for ACP was May 2024 and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced qualified ACP customers may receive a partial discount. The partial discount in May will be for the following ACP services: Non-Tribal $14, Tribal Lands Service $35, and Connected Device $47 (with a co-pay between $10 and $50).
When is the last monthly bill with a partial ACP discount?
Your May 2024 bill will be subject to adjustments based on the partial ACP discounts as set by the FCC. At the beginning of your May 2024 billing cycle, Gen Mobile will automatically adjust your ACP plan to our $20 plan that has unlimited talk & text and 4GB of data for customers not residing on tribal lands (or the $40 plan that has unlimited talk & text and 16GB of data for customers residing on tribal lands). Gen Mobile is giving you the added discount in May to keep your services free! If you would like more data, you can always purchase more.
What are my options for transition from ACP to undiscounted rate?
When the ACP ends, starting your June billing cycle, your household will be subject to Gen Mobile’s regular rates and general terms and conditions.
We understand that the changes in pricing will impact your budget, and we want to ensure a smooth transition for you. Therefore, we would like to remind you of the following options:
a. Purchase a service plan: Take this opportunity to review your current service plan. If you have any questions about the available plans or would like to explore alternatives, please contact Customer Care at 1-833-528-1380. If you set up AutoPay, you will receive an ongoing 10% off of your monthly plan.
b. Lifeline Program: Once ACP ends and you are enrolled in the Lifeline program with Gen Mobile, you will still receive a $9.25 Lifeline wireless plan, which provides 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts, and 4.5 GB of data. If you would like to upgrade your Lifeline program plan to include more data, please contact Customer Care at 1-833-528-1380. If you set up your plan upgrade on AutoPay, you will receive an ongoing 10% off your monthly plan upgrade.
c. Opt-out of continuing service: If you choose not to continue your service with us after the conclusion of the ACP, please contact us and let us know, and we will guide you through the process. At the end of your May billing cycle, if we do not hear from you or if you have not prepaid for a non-ACP Gen Mobile plan, your service will be placed on text-only grace period for 30 days. After the grace period, your service will be terminated and your phone number will be disconnected unless you contact us to purchase a monthly plan.
